DPR employs the International Lifeguard Training Program (ILTP) to train and certify lifeguards to work both indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities throughout the District. The ILTP is an objective driven program that produces lifeguards that perform at a higher level than those of other national/international training agencies. DPR is excited to offer these FREE lifeguard training certification courses. DC residents & residents from surrounding areas can register now.  

All candidates must pass the prerequisites screening on the first day of class which includes the following:

• 100 yard swim (continuous using an approach stroke, freestyle or breaststroke)
• Retrieve a 10 pound dive brick from the deepest part of the training facility
• Tread water without the use of your hands for 1 minute
• Exit the pool unassisted and without the use of steps or a ladder

*This course is intended for people who want to work as a lifeguard for DC Department of Parks and Recreation.

If you do not intend on working with DC Department of Parks and Recreation, you will be charged $250 for the course and certification.
